NOTICE TO PARTIES AND THE PROFESSION

Coming into force of the Courts Administration Service Act

The Courts Administration Service Act, being an Act to establish a body that provides administrative services to the Federal Court of Appeal, the Federal Court, the Court Martial Appeal Court and the Tax Court of Canada, to amend the Federal Court Act, the Tax Court of Canada Act and the Judges Act, and to make related and consequential amendments to other Acts, will come into force on July 2, 2003.

The Courts Administration Service Act will amend the Federal Court Act to create a separate Federal Court of Appeal and Federal Court. It also changes the status of the Tax Court of Canada to that of a superior court.

On May 22, 2003, the Honourable MartinCauchon, Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada, announced the appointment of Mr. Robert M. Emond as the first Chief Administrator to head the Courts Administration Service. This appointment also takes effect on July 2, 2003.
